Conversations with Da – 2011-2017 – electrographs

These drawings represent a selection from a large series made during daily, extended telephone conversations with my elderly father, which began after my mother’s death. I would listen to him recount his day, and let my hands take control, removing any conscious decisions about what to draw. By the end of each conversation, I completed one or sometimes several drawings. Over the years, before my father’s death in 2017, I made hundreds of these works, and consider them to be a reflection of these intimate exchanges – about life, time, death, TV shows, dinner choices, doctor’s appointments, memories, money and politics.
